Tegan Emerson is an Australian ceramic artist who creates decorative ritual objects designed as conduits for grounding and self-connection.

Her forms draw inspiration from European ceramic traditions, particularly the Italian Renaissance, grotesque motifs, and garden grottos. The surfaces of her pieces often exhibit intricate textures inspired by coral and deep-sea formations. Her work is influenced by the esoteric, the occult, and the feminine connection to the spiritual realm, embracing the mysterious and strange. She utilizes world-building as a means of self-exploration.

Tegan’s practice is rooted in understanding local ceramic materials and a consideration of the Australian environment. She delves into the alchemy of glaze mixing, continually exploring new possibilities.

Tegan Emerson completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Sydney College of the Arts in 2010 and graduated from the University of Sydney with a Masters of Art Curatorship in 2013. Her career in archives, curating and as an image specialist is also an influence on her work.

Formerly based in Berlin until 2023 and currently based in Sydney, working on Gadigal land.
