Tegan Emerson (b. Sydney Australia)

Formerly based in Berlin, Germany until 2023
Currently based in Sydney, Australia.

Tegan Emerson is a ceramic artist, creating highly textured forms and surfaces which are inspired by organic coral architecture, deep-sea life and deep-time geological forms as well as the dualism of build-up and erosion. Esoteric and occult themes are also an inspiration for her work, embracing the unknown and weird, and using world-building as a tool for learning about oneself.

Her practice is divided by creating functional ceramic ritual wares and experimental ceramic sculptures. Each informs the other, using researched material and glaze choices to create vitrified grounding objects which engage the senses of the user.

Alongside making ceramics Tegan is also interested in the vibrant ceramic community around her. In 2021, she was also a co-founder and co-curator of the exhibition Vessels: New Berlin Crafts and in 2022 curated a selection of ceramics for the third edition of Berlin exhibition Hot Mess.
